Consumption Options of Medical Marijuana

Date

There are countless options for MMJ consumption, depending on both preference and needs. Vaping, oils, concentrates, edibles, and pills, topicals and transdermals, tinctures, and of course, the whole flower use. Some MMTC’s also offer suppositories, inhalers, and sublingual products.

Vaping
Onset: Seconds to minutes
Duration: 1 to 3 hours
Vaporization is the heating of cannabis distillates and oil to turn the compounds into vapor. This vapor is inhaled through the mouthpiece of a delivery device.

Edibles & Pills
Onset: 15 minutes to 2 hours
Duration: 4 to 6+ hours
Edibles are different food products that are infused with medical cannabis. There is an endless variety of flavors and styles of edibles. They are usually packaged discreetly as individual doses and offer long-lasting effects and symptom relief.

Concentrates
Onset: Seconds to minutes
Duration: 1 to 4 hours
This method delivers a highly potent concentration of cannabis, resulting in considerably more intense results than other forms. (See RSO oil below)

Topicals & Transdermals
Onset: 5 minutes to 2 hours
Duration: Up to 12 hours
Lotions, salves, balms, and transdermal patches provide means for cannabinoids to be absorbed into the skin. This is a great method for chronic inflammation and pain. No psychoactive effects are produced.

Smokable Flower
Onset: Seconds to minutes
Duration: 1 to 3 hours
One of the most common methods of cannabis consumption is the smoking of the dried flower. Fast delivery and a great amount of user control.

Full Spectrum RSO
Onset: 15 minutes to 1 hour
Duration: 4 to 10 hours
High potency THC oil named after cannabis advocate Rick Simpson. It’s extremely important to start with small quantities at first.

Tinctures
Onset: 20 to 30 minutes
Duration: 2 to 4 hours
Fast delivery of medication in a more precise dose in comparison to other methods. Tinctures come in pre-measured concentrations with varying cannabinoid ratios.

Dosage

You can typically find the THC percentage on the label of your medical marijuana product, which can help you determine the best dosage. (The higher the THC percentage, typically the higher the effect.)

Products such as vaporizer cartridges can be quite potent for new medical patients, so you should begin with a single inhalation and wait 15 to 20 minutes before increasing the dosage.

When it comes to concentrates, use sparingly for any new user. If you’re looking to consume full spectrum RSO, start with a small dose (about half the size of a grain of rice) and work up.

Always start low! Avoid consuming too much, too fast, which can lead to negative side effects. We’re all different and how we react to cannabis is as well.
